Michael Che Campbell (/ˈtʃeɪ/; lahir 19 Mei 1983)[1][2] adalah seorang stand-up komedian, aktor dan penulis asal Amerika Serikat. Che terkenal karena karyanya di serial komedi sketsa NBC Saturday Night Live, di mana ia menjabat sebagai pembawa acara di Weekend Update bersama Colin Jost, dan keduanya adalah kepala penulis dari tahun 2017 hingga 2022.[3] Che dan Jost menjadi pembawa acara Primetime Emmy Awards ke-70 pada tahun 2018.[4]
Che sempat menjadi koresponden The Daily Show with Jon Stewart dan sebelumnya bekerja sebagai penulis untuk Saturday Night Live. Pada akhir September 2014, ia menjadi pembawa acara Weekend Update untuk musim ke-40 Saturday Night Live bersama Colin Jost.[5]
Kehidupan awal
Michael Che Campbell lahir di Manhattan, New York City, New York, anak bungsu dari tujuh bersaudara dari Rose dan Nathaniel Campbell.[6] Dia memiliki empat kakak laki-laki dan dua kakak perempuan.[7] Salah satu kakak laki-lakinya adalah seorang detektif di Departemen Kepolisian New York, dan satu lagi pensiunan dari penegakan hukum.[7][8] Ayahnya memberi nama Michael setelah revolusioner Che Guevara.[9]
Che dibesarkan di Lower East Side Manhattan.[10] Ia lulus dari SMA Fiorello H. LaGuardia.[11][12]
Che bekerja di layanan pelanggan untuk dealer mobil Toyota selama dua tahun. Dia juga membuat potret akrilik selebritas, mencetak potret tersebut di pakaian, dan menjualnya di SoHo. Tommy Hilfiger memperhatikan karyanya dan menawari Che kerja freelance, tapi Che tidak menyerahkan desain apa pun.[13]
