Living Colour adalah band rock Amerika yang dibentuk di New York City pada tahun 1984. Musik band ini adalah perpaduan kreatif dari pengaruh heavy metal, funk, jazz, hip hop, punk, dan rock alternatif . Lirik mereka berkisar dari hal-hal pribadi hingga yang politis, termasuk komentar sosial tentang rasisme di Amerika.
Living Colour menanjak namanya setelah merilis album debut Vivid pada tahun 1988.[6]
Dari sekian banyak hits yang dihasilkan band ini, Living Colour paling diingat dengan singel "Cult of Personality" yang menjadi anthem andalan mereka. Singel ini juga meraih Grammy Award untuk kategori Best Hard Rock Performance pada tahun 1990. Mereka juga dinobatkan sebagai Artis Baru Terbaik di MTV Video Music Awards 1989 dan memenangkan Grammy Award kedua untuk album kedua mereka Time's Up . Setelah bubar pada tahun 1995, Living Color bersatu kembali pada akhir tahun 2000.[7]
Sejarah
Tahun-tahun Awal (1984–1986)
Gitaris kelahiran Inggris, Vernon Reid membentuk Living Colour di New York pada tahun 1984 setelah beberapa kali membentuk band yang berbeda. Kata 'colour' digunakan karena Reid berasal dari Inggris yang menggunakan ejaan tersebut.
Sebelumnya Vernon Reid dikenal di kalangan penikmat musik jazz New York karena pernah bergabung dengan Decoding Society bersama Ronald Shannon Jackson.
